Federal University of Technology Owerri

You might ask questions like: I had 180 and above but was not still given the admission to study my desired course?
Candidates with higher scores are first considered; in admission basics, candidates with lower scores though might meet the cut off mark of 180 may likely not be admitted. In fact, it is the higher your scores, the higher the chance of being admitted.

A serious tension is on in the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU) in Abia state. This tension is as a result of the fact that they were asked to disengage about 460 temporary workers that were engaged by the immediate past administration of Prof Hillary Edeoga. The question now is how are they going to survive if such happens?

Mouau under pressure to dismiss 460 workers

About 460 temporary workers with the

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike

in Abia State are on the verge of losing their jobs following the directive by the University authority ordering them to re-apply for renewal of their appointments.
This directive contained in a circular dated April 28, 2017, and signed by the University’s Registrar, Azubuike Nwaokacha, BDSUNDAY gathered, has sent jitters down the spines of the affected temporal workers.
The circular read in part: “Following the resolution at the family meeting held on April 27, 2017, all staff on temporary appointments and whose appointments had elapsed are hereby requested to apply for renewal of temporary appointment.
“The application should be addressed to the registrar through the HoD and Dean. The supervising officers should give cogent reasons why the applicant’s temporary appointment should be renewed”.
The circular had also directed the applicants to include photocopies of their letters of appointment and curriculum vitae, adding that the receipt of application closes one week from May 4, 2017.
A source close to the university management who spoke to the BDSUNDAY on condition of anonymity alleged that some bigwigs in the University who had fallen out of favor with former vice chancellor of the University, Hillary Edeoga, were those responsible for the current directive.
The source further alleged that the cabal had not hidden their plan to get the current Vice Chancellor, Francis Otunta, sack some workers employed toward the end of former VC’s tenure to enable them to replace such workers with their friends and relations.
Recall that Otunta, during his maiden interaction with journalists a few months ago, said he would not sack any staff of the University employed before his appointment as vice chancellor, adding that he would not remove food from anyone’s table.
One of the affected staff who asked not to be named stated that the current development was a calculated effort to sack some workers from the University.
He stated that the staff in question ought to have been invited for regularization, but the process was intentionally delayed to root some workers out of the system.
When contacted, the Public Relation Officer of the University, Adanma Odefa insisted that the Vice Chancellor was not under pressure to sack anybody, but that he was just following the procedure of doing things according to rules of the University.
She confirmed that the staff who were asked to reapply for renewal of their appointments were hired illegally by the past administration of the University.
She said: “There is a bit of a mess that needs to be sorted out, it didn’t just start with this administration. The Administration of Hillary Edeoga hired over 460 people improperly without going through the right procedure.
We have these 460 people who were given temporary appointments and the procedure usually is when a staff has a temporary appointment it elapses automatically after one year if it is not renewed.
“The appointments of staff in question elapsed on February this year. But because of the human face and the present economic realities in the country the University still paid these staff for the month of March, but then the University can no longer continue to pay these people because it is illegal. Why some UTME candidates won’t get their results — Oloyede - Vanguard News

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, yesterday, vowed not to release results of candidates identified in footages of Close Circuit Television, CCTV, to have indulged in unwholesome practices during the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, who spoke as guest on a Channels Television current affairs programme, Sunrise Daily, said his agency had been busy in the past days reviewing recorded footages of the examination across the country, and that a number of candidates had been marked out for sanction.

Oloyede was responding to a question by one of the anchors of the programme on why some candidates were yet to receive their results, despite promises by JAMB to release outcomes within 24 hours.

He said: “Those who have not received (their results) are qualified not to receive for now. In all cases where there were no problems, we released results of the examination within 24 hours.
“But those who have not (received their results), they may not be culpable but we are investigating. Where we have reason to doubt anything or where we have report of anything that is not acceptable to us, we have withheld the results. We will keep on releasing them as we clear them.
“For instance, this morning (yesterdayu), we released another 15,000 results. But among those who sat in that centre, we have reasons, concrete evidence to say about 300 of them, their results will not be released because we know they were not in the hall where the examination took place.”
“We are comparing those who sat for the examination, how long they sat in the hall, and how some of them took excuses that they were going to the toilet only to go to what they called VIP…
“All this we are now able to track. And we want to say that we will not hesitate to sanction anybody no matter how highly placed.”
Oloyede said the CCTV cameras deployed at every Computer Based Test (CBT) centres across the country helped JAMB detect and arrest unwholesome practices.

He said some centre operators however tried to sabotage his agency’s plan to make the examination fraud-free, citing the example of a centre in Kubwa, Abuja, where operators blinded the cameras with sacks to frustrate remote detection of malpractices that happened there.

The JAhMB registrar appealed to credible organisations and individuals to come forward to partner JAMB in the establishment of reputable CBT centres across the country.
“Crooks are now establishing CBT centres, and meeting our requirements only to misuse the opportunities,” he said.

JAMB had on May 16 released the first batch results of the UTME conducted between May 13 and May 20. The Board continued to release the results in batches ever since.

About 1.7 million candidates registered for the 2017 UTME and sat for the examination in 642 centres across the country.

Universities 2017 Admission Pattern | How Universities will Conduct Admission.

Universities 2017 Admission Pattern | How Admission will be Conducted

Universities 2017 Admission Pattern | The Federal Government of Nigeria has scrap-off post UTME to the betterment of our student. Due to this fact, many candidate has been wondering how admission screening will be conducted this year.
In this article, I will be explaining in detail, how university admission screening will be conducted for year 2017/2018 session. I will help you understand everything by making my explanations very simple – stay focus and follow me…
The Former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Professor Peter Okebukola, has disclosed that the scrapping of Post-UTME means that tertiary institutions will now go back to the agreement NUC had with Vice-Chancellors in 2004 when it introduced Post-UTME which is to screen candidates on oral interview and written essay.

Admission Guide to All Tertiary Aspirants

1. The University senate now has autonomy to select candidates for admission. However the list of selected candidates must pass through JAMB for approval and issuance of admission letters.
2. Whether or not you were posted to a school or not for admission consideration earlier no longer matters. As the posting is no longer valid. All you need to do now is wait for your school of choice to announce its screening exercise and ensure you participate accordingly.
3. For Tertiary institutions that have already conducted their admission screening exercise in line with JAMB stipulations, such screening still remains valid. Candidates that participated in such screening should wait for the release of the admission list(s) by their respective institutions.
4. The withdrawal of the JAMB Consideration List does not mean that post-UTME is now valid. The ban on Post-UTME remains valid. Tertiary institutions must abide to the screening modalities as earlier announced by JAMB.

5. Candidates should note that the offer of provisional admission by their schools of choice is subject to validation by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
JAMB Proposed Modalities for Screening 2017

1. Screening of candidates shall be for ONLY candidates recommended for admissions.
2. No written examination to be conducted.
3. Verification of Course Requirements (O’ levels or A’ levels).
4. Verification of valid JAMB results by checking:
Online Result Slip
ii. Printout
iii. Photo Album
v. Checklist
vi. Biometrics
5. Institutions are free to source from other Course(s) to
compensate for SHORTFALL in any of the criteria.
How Admission will be conducted by JAMB
If the proposed modality for admission by JAMB is to be adopted for 2017 admission screening, below is how it will be conducted.
1. JAMB must offer a candidate an admission before such candidates qualifies for screening in the institution he or she has been provisionally admitted. This means that institutions can only screening candidates sent to them by JAMB as having been provisionally admitted in such institution.
2. Institutions admission screening processes will now be based on point system. The first on the point system is the O’level grading. Candidates who have only one O-level result will stand a better chance of gaining admission than candidates with 2 results. One 0’level result = 10marks/points while two O’level results = 3 marks/points.
Similarly, each grade will now have its equivalent points/marks in this manner; A=6 marks, B=4 marks, C=3 marks which means the having better grades in your O’level result gives you a better chance of securing admission.

Universities 2017 Admission Pattern | How Universities will Conduct Admission

The next to be considered on the point system is your UTME Score. Candidates will be awarded marks/points based on their 180-200=20-23 marks, 200-250=24-33 points, 251-300=34-43, 300-400=44-60 points. The higher your score, the higher your chances of securing admission.
This means that what we previously know as institutions cut-off-marks will now be known as institutions cut-off points which will be arrived at after putting all the aforementioned into consideration.
3. JAMB provisional admission is now a means to an end and not an end itself. This means that JAMB may offer a candidate a provisional admissions and such candidate will still be denied admission by his/her institution because he or she comes below the cut-off point for his/her course in th at particular institution.
For instance you may be given provisional admission to study MBBS in UNIBEN by JAMB having obtained a UTME score of 260. If your institution’s cut-off point for medicine is 95 points and you come below that number of points after the screening, you will likely be denied admission.
4. Admission process will still put into considerations factors like catchment area and ELDS (Educationally Less Developed States) in determining the number of candidates admitted. Admission by merit is 45%, catchment area 35% and ELDS 20%.
The issue of Science to arts ratio will still be in place. For universities Science to arts ratio will be 60:40, Polytechnics 70:30. However for specialized institutions (Technology, Science Agriculture etc) it will be 100% related to their specialty. Also 90% of admission will go to UTME candidates while 10% will go to Direct Entry candidates.
5. Schools are still at liberty to charge a certain fee for the screening of candidates. However, the Board did not stipulate how much institutions are to charge for this.

How to check if you are Eligible for Admission 2017

Here is how the 2017/18 Admission Screening will be calculated;

Step 1 – Number of sittings for O’Level

1) One Sitting = 10 marks
2) Two Sittings = 3marks
Total marks obtainable = 10marks

Step 2 – O’Level Result Grading from 5 subjectsu

A (A1) = 6marks
B (B2, B3) = 4marks
C (C4, C5, C6) = 3marks
Total marks obtainable = 30marks

Step 3 – JAMB UTME Score Grades

Total marks obtainable = 60marks
So start calculating your score now. Hence, if you need us to feed you with more updated information at the right time about JAMB Admission 2017, kindly provide us your phone number and email Address in the comment box below.
